Waste Land Development Board
The Waste Land Development Board monitors the overall implementation of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980. It seeks to maintain ecology, preserve and regenerate the forests of our country, while critical development works are carried out.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests cum Executive Director heads the Waste Land Development Board of Jharkhand. He/She is also the nodal officer for Jharkhand state, for implementation of the Forest Conservation Act and its rules thereof.
Aims & Objectives
- To implement Forest Conservation Act 1980 strictly, ensuring that critical development works in the forests of the state are carried out only in such manner as to minimize its impact on ecology.
- To regulate diversion of forest land for different infrastructural development and other non-forest purposes, ensuring that such diversion is minimal and strictly in accordance with the provisions of Forest Conservation Act and rules thereof, in view of the judgements of the Honourable Supreme Court and High Courts.
- To help in smooth and streamlined implementation of the Forest Conservation Act and rules thereof, and the careful, meticulous and expeditious handling of proposals submitted by user agencies for forest clearance under the Act.
About Forest Conservation Act, 1980
The Forest Conservation Act 1980 was enacted to help conserve the country’s forests. It strictly restricts and regulates the de-reservation of forests or use of forest land for non-forest purposes without the prior approval of Central Government. To this end the Act lays down the pre-requisites for the diversion of forest land for non-forest purposes.
